How to Choose a Toothbrush

How to select a toothbrush

Are all electric toothbrushes equal? They are not!

We recommend the Oral B and Sonic Care brands because the head of the brush OSCILLATES (goes back and forth) making them much more efficient and effective in cleaning your teeth.

The less expensive “spin” / battery operated brushes don’t work as well. Because the head of the brush only spins (goes around) it is NOT efficient and effective in removing plaque and bacteria.

For kids, we don’t recommend they use the cute “spin” / battery operated toothbrushes for just that reason.

Manual Toothbrushes

Here are a few criteria to consider:

1 – Bristles

We recommend choosing a toothbrush marked Ultrasoft or Sensitive on the packaging. It will help protect your gums. These gentler brushes will not wear the gums down.

We do not recommend the medium-hard bristle brushes. They can damage BOTH the teeth and the gums. Also, the bristles are not flexible enough to reach the crevices of your teeth and those hard to reach areas of the mouth.

2 – Head of the brush

Choose a toothbrush that is small enough to reach ALL areas of your mouth – especially those hard to reach spots (like the inside of your back teeth).

3 – Handle

Make sure it fits comfortably in your hand.

REPLACING YOUR TOOTHBRUSH

Remember to change it every 3 months or after you’ve been sick!
