Why are healthy teeth important?
Not only will you have a beautiful smile, but healthy teeth help you chew and digest food, speak clearly and keep your jaws strong.
How we help keep your teeth healthy
We recommend that you see us every six months for a dental check-up and cleaning. These appointments are not “just” a cleaning. Here are some of the tasks done:
• We remove plaque and tartar that can lead to gum-disease;
• Our dentists complete an oral cancer screening;
• We check each and every tooth for cavity prevention;
• We review your medical questionnaire and ask about your current health.
How healthy teeth affect your overall health
Dental issues, such as gum-disease, have a proven connection to conditions such as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, premature births and even dementia.
By coming to regular dental appointments, we can treat gum-disease early and have a positive impact on your overall health!
State-of-the-art technology
We carefully select our dental tools with your best interests in mind. Here are a few of the ones we use:
The “cari-vu” device, which looks like a wand, allows our dentists and hygienists to illuminate the tooth. This tool allows them to “look through the tooth” and examine its structure. It also enhances their ability to see early signs of cavities.
An intraoral camera shows you photographs of your teeth. It allows you to view and better understand the condition of your teeth and gums.
We use a “cavitron” – which is like a pressure washer. It removes dirt, stains, tartar and plaque off the teeth.
We also use non-mechanical tools which allows for a deeper clean in hard to reach places, especially between the teeth.
